Boarded in internal medicine, pediatrics and hospice and palliative care, Kay Miller Temple practiced primary care medicine in rural and urban areas before transitioning to a non-clinical career in 2017 after obtaining a Masters’ degree in journalism and mass communication. She now covers rural health issues as a web writer for the Rural Health Information Hub, a federally funded national clearinghouse for rural health information. Additionally, she provides writing mentorship for medical students and other health profession students participating in the Targeted Rural Health Education project.

Miller Temple’s commitment to the agriculture community’s health and safety starts with what she believes is the fortunate circumstances of her birth: She was raised on her family’s South Dakota farm, originally homesteaded by her great great-grandparents. She continues to regularly spend time with her many family members who farm and ranch in South Dakota.
