Dr. Nissen has been an Advanced Practice Provider in Family Health Care since 2009. Her expertise is in Rural Health Care, Occupational Health and Urgent Care. Mary Kay Nissen has had considerable experience as an educator, most recently as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Graduate Program at South Dakota State University. Prior to that she taught in the graduate Nursing program at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa.  She has many years of experience in both undergraduate and graduate nursing education. As well as teaching, she maintains a practice in urgent/acute care in Shenandoah Iowa.  Dr. Nissen is the author of several journal articles. She is a contributing editor to the text Rural Nursing: Concepts, Theory and Practice. She has been invited to speak at several regional and national nursing conferences. Dr. Nissen received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa, a post master’s degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Creighton University in Omaha, NE.
