Board of Directors – Job Description

Purpose: To serve as a voting member of the Board, to assist in the development and application of policies, procedures, and regulations to govern operations, and to monitor the finances, programs, and performance of the organization.

Term: Three years

Attendance Expectations:

  • Regularly attend scheduled meetings (monthly calls)
  • Attend calls of committees served (approx. 2-4 per year)
  • Attend board retreats, planning sessions, and board development workshops
  • Attend and participate in special events

Obligations of the Board:

  • Establish policy
  • Hire, supervise, and annually evaluate the Chief Executive Officer
  • Secure adequate funds
  • Monitor finances
  • Maintain, update, and monitor strategic plans
  • Join as an AgriSafe member

Specific Duties:

  • Attend meetings, participate, and show commitment to board activities
  • Be well-informed and prepared for meetings
  • Contribute skills, knowledge, and experience when appropriate
  • Listen respectfully to other viewpoints
  • Assume leadership roles in all board activities, including fundraising
  • Represent the nonprofit to the public, businesses, government officials, and the community
  • Educate yourself about the needs of the people the nonprofit serves
