SUMMARY:Health and Safety Issues of the Aging Farmer
DESCRIPTION:This webinar introduces the unique aspects of health and safety for aging farmers and their families. We will cover this topic using a Total Worker Health lens; that is\, how health relates to work\, family\, and all aspects of the farmer’s life. This program will equip you with a skill set to apply to older farmers and resources to access that can improve quality of life.\nAt the end of this session\, participants will be able to:\n\nDetermine the difference between “normal” and “abnormal” aging processes\nApply a skill set to determine the health needs of the aging farmers\nIdentify resources and make appropriate referrals to assist aging farmers in their activities\nUtilize new knowledge to guide and assist family units in making good health behavior decisions (Case studies)\n\n  \n This training has expired. Let us know if you’d like us to schedule it again! \n\n\n \n \n Repeat This Webinar\n \n \n URLThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Title of Webinar(Required)Would you like to be contacted if we are able to schedule this webinar again?(Required)\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n Email

SUMMARY:Increasing the Use of Hearing Protection Among Farmers: Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:Farm operators\, as well as farm youth\, experience frequent exposure to high noise and have among the highest rates of hearing loss among all categories of workers. Additionally\, noise exposure impacts multiple organ systems\, contributing to cardiovascular disease\, hypertension\, obesity\, and other highly prevalent diseases. Although the effects of noise can be mitigated through use of hearing protection and other strategies\, these methods are highly underused in this worker group. Nurses in a variety of clinical settings who provide care for farm operators and farm youth are in a unique position to influence the noise mitigation behaviors of this high-risk and underserved group. In this webinar designed for nurses caring for workers in production agriculture\, learners will discuss methods of assessing worker exposure to hazardous noise\, and evidence-based nursing approaches to protect workers from the negative effects of noise on hearing and worker well-being. \nAt the end of the webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nDiscuss several risk factors for noise-induced health problems common among farmers.\nDescribe major features of interventions shown to be effective in influencing farmers’ use of hearing protection.\nDiscuss best practices for clinical application of farm noise mitigation effectiveness research.\n\n  \n This training has expired. Let us know if you’d like us to schedule it again! \n\n \n \n Repeat This Webinar\n \n \n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Title of Webinar(Required)Would you like to be contacted if we are able to schedule this webinar again?(Required)\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n Email

SUMMARY:Allergic and Non-allergic Respiratory Disease in Farmers
DESCRIPTION:The goal of the webinar is to inform health care providers of farmers and farming exposed workers on the allergic and non-allergic respiratory diseases commonplace to this type of environment. The webinar will cover a general overview of allergic and non-allergic respiratory diseases including asthma\, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease\, hypersensitivity pneumonia\, and organic dust toxic syndrome.  Viewers of this webinar will be able to recognize the similarities and differences in the presentation\, diagnostic approach\, and treatment modalities available. \nBy the end of this webinar\, the audience will be able to: \n\nRecognize and determine allergic respiratory disease and discuss relevance with in the farming community.\nDiscuss the diagnostic evaluation of occupational induced asthma.\nRecognize the common causes of non-allergic respiratory disease among farmers including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease\, organic dust toxic syndrome\, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.\nBe able to discuss treatment options for respiratory disease in farmers.\n\n This training has expired.
