SUMMARY:Talking to Farmers About Pain
DESCRIPTION:The occupational hazards that farmers face put them at greater risk for acute and chronic pain as a result of ergonomic repetition\, accident\, or surgical procedure. Addressing specific occupational sources of pain and what activities the pain inhibits are crucial to improving treatment. This module will focus on how to transform the conversation between provider and patient to improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction. \nAt the end of the presentation\, participants will be able to: \n1.  Understand the prevalence of occupational hazards amongst farming occupations.\n2.  Recognize occupational implications as they relate to acute and chronic pain.\n3.  Gain strategies to improve provider-patient conversations about occupational farmer pain.\n4.  Identify patient resources to aid in facilitating candid discussion about pain. \n  \n\n\nRegistration Instructions: \n\n\n\nIf you don’t already have a profile with AgriSafe\, please set up a free account. SUMMARY:Discovering the Root of your Back Story – Prevention and Understanding of Back Injuries
DESCRIPTION:Back injuries are one of the most common forms of farm-related injuries\, so protecting the back is one of the most important things a producer can do to stay active on the farm. Men and women are both prone to work-related back pain and the first episode usually occurs between the ages of 20 and 40. Training will focus on effects of whole body vibration\, causes of back injuries/pain\, how to prevent back injuries/pain\, and other considerations. \nIntended Audience: This training is intended primarily for health and safety professionals including but not limited to owner/operators\, safety officers or specialists\, managers\, supervisors\, safety coordinators\, health safety and environmental interns and any person or persons who serve as safety personnel in an agricultural setting. \nObjectives: \nUpon completion of this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify causes of back injuries/pain\nExplain and utilize strategies to prevent back injuries/pain\nDescribe and utilize proper lifting techniques\nDescribe effects of whole body vibration (WBV)\nApply strategies for maintaining back health\nRecall ways to manage chronic pain\n\n\n\nRegistration Instructions: \n\n\n\nIf you don’t already have a profile with AgriSafe\, please set up a free account. SUMMARY:Ergonomic Safety for Farm Women
DESCRIPTION:It is no secret – women are playing an increased role in production agriculture. They account for about one-third of the management\, ownership and work on farms\, ranches and in crop production. A major challenge continues to be access to protective equipment that meets the ergonomic needs of women. This program is intended to help women in rural/agricultural communities identify ergonomic issues leading to musculoskeletal injuries in farm and ranch work and discover resources to aid in injury prevention. \nAt the end of the presentation\, participants will be able to: \n1. Identify work site hazards and potential musculoskeletal injuries. \n2. Identify wellness initiatives aimed at reducing risks related to musculoskeletal injuries. \n3. Locate three current evidenced based resources in the field of agricultural health and safety that address ergonomic safety. \n4. Utilize the individual AgHRA to look at current exposures and preventive methods for daily farm tasks. \n  \n\n\nRegistration Instructions: \n\n\n\nIf you don’t already have a profile with AgriSafe\, please set up a free account. SUMMARY:Agricultural All-Terrain Vehicle Safety
DESCRIPTION:All-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashes are one of the leading causes of death and injuries in the agriculture industry in the United States. In this presentation\, we will evaluate the current situation and possible solutions related to agricultural ATV safety. Potential injury preventative actions were evaluated based on the hierarchy of control\, including elimination or substitution\, engineering control\, administrative authority\, training\, and personal protective equipment. \nAt the end of the webinar\, participants will: \n– Understand Recreational vs. Agricultural ATV incidents\n– Identify strategies for elimination or substitution to prevent injury\n– Recognize engineering controls: Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS)\, Crush Prevention Device (CPD)\n– Describe administrative authority: United States\, Canada\, Europe\, Australia\, Israel\, and New Zealand\n– Identify Personal Protective Equipment (helmet) \n\n\nRegistration Instructions: \n\n\n\nIf you don’t already have a profile with AgriSafe\, please set up a free account.
