SUMMARY:Webinar: Animal Depopulation Resiliency Check-in Tool
DESCRIPTION:Summary: Animal depopulation is associated with distressing psychological impacts on people. These impacts affect many stakeholders including veterinarians\, producers\, public health officials\, and others who make decisions about and carry out depopulation. The Animal Depopulation Resiliency Check-in Tool (ADRCT) is a five-question public health protocol for stakeholders who are preparing for\, participating in\, and recovering from animal depopulation. \nADRCT questions have been developed in veterinary clinical environments over the last 20 years. Over the last 3 years\, through USDA APHIS National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program funding awarded to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians\, the tool has been reviewed by experts in human traumatology and data collected from depopulation stakeholders. This webinar will review the tool including how to use it and preliminary feedback about the tool gathered thus far. \nIntended Audience: Veterinarians\, physicians\, nurses\, Extension staff\, agricultural safety\, and health professionals\, farm managers\, farm workers\, and anyone else who may be involved with a depopulation event in their community. \nObjectives: At the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to… \n\nUnderstand the prevalence of trauma-related symptoms after potentially traumatic events\nDescribe the human stressors of animal depopulation\nKnow the five questions in the Animal Depopulation Resiliency Check-in Tool\nBe able to apply the Animal Depopulation Resiliency Check-in Tool safely\nUnderstand the resiliency flexibility sequence\n\n Watch the Recording Here \n

SUMMARY:Webinar: What Does Postvention Following a Suicide Look Like?
DESCRIPTION:Summary: Suicide prevention and intervention are critical public health strategies for an issue that according to current US statistics is ever-increasing. How can we help those left behind and grieving for loved ones who have died by suicide? \nAgriSafe is proud to host Dr. Frank Campbell\, founder of the National Suicidology Training Center and nationally recognized expert on suicidology. It was due to his more than twenty years of working with those bereaved by suicide that he introduced his Active Postvention Model (APM) most commonly known as the LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors). His work with survivors and victims of trauma has been featured in three Discovery Channel documentaries. Dr. Campbell’s model has been replicated across North America and abroad. In this very special “live only” webinar\, Dr. Campbell will discuss the impact of suicide on individuals\, communities\, and public health.  Postvention is one way a community can organize efforts to help the newly bereaved following a suicide and provide support that can change the legacy of suicide for families and agricultural communities. By attending this presentation\, you will help us to reduce stigma on a manner of death that continues to grip our nation that leaves most of us confused on how we can respond to those left behind. \nIntended Audience: Anyone who is interested in helping those bereaved by suicide \nObjectives: At the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to… \n\nList rural states with the highest rates of suicide\nDescribe the Active Postvention Model\nRecognize the ways that suicide impacts all those touched by a loved one who has died by suicide\nProvide suggested resources for those bereaved by suicide that can help them in their complicated bereavement process\n\nThis session will not be recorded\, so please plan on attending the live webinar if you want to view this session. \nContinuing Education for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors: The Louisiana Counseling Association is approved by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Board of Examiners to offer continuing education clock hours. This presentation has been reviewed and approved for 1.5 CE clock hours for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors. \n\n\n      \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar: Cultivating a Healthy Mind - Mental Wellness for Youth Train the Trainer
DESCRIPTION:Summary: Stigma exists across all age groups for those struggling with mental health. Navigation of the teen years in everyday situations can create angst and uncomfortable feelings that are difficult to express. Adding mental illness and mental crisis to a teen or young adult’s typical growth and development makes struggling with emotions\, relationships\, academic success\, and safety more challenging. According to the CDC\, rates of depression and anxiety climb significantly during the ages of 12-17. Suicide is the second leading cause of death of youths in the United States. This module opens an introductory discussion of mental health among teens and young adults with guidance from an adult educator. Focus is placed on decreasing stigma\, improving mental health literacy\, and positive coping skills for teens and young adults. The module showcases a high school agricultural student’s understanding of the agricultural mental health crisis\, helping to frame mental health distress to academic and future career success. \nObjectives: After the module\, teens and young adults will be able to…. \n\nUnderstand the relationship of mental health to physical health and academic or career success\nRecognize basic signs or symptoms that present when young adults experience mental stress\nIdentify healthy and unhealthy coping behaviors when faced with mental distress\nCommunicate their concerns when suspecting they or someone they know is experiencing a mental health crisis\n\nIntended Audience: This Train the Trainer course is designed for teachers\, Extension staff\, 4H and FFA leaders and others who work with young adults. \n Watch the Recording Here

SUMMARY:Webinar: Mental Health and Suicide on US Farms: Muckville Movie Viewing and Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join AgriSafe for a viewing of the Muckville documentary (approximately 20 minutes) followed by a live question and answer session with Chris and Eve Pawelski\, and film director Jeff Mertz. \nChris almost ran out of time. As a 4th-generation onion farmer on the post-glacial black dirt of Goshen\, NY\, Chris is just one of millions of farmers in America facing the unnecessarily Sisyphusian task of earning a living. “Muckville” takes us on a journey through time on the Pawelski farm\, from Polish immigration in the early 20th century\, through the onset of climate change-driven crop failures in the 1990s and subsequent pitfalls of US agriculture policy\, to Chris’s resulting existential crisis and suicidal ideation. \nThis short documentary provides rare insight into the ongoing mental health epidemic on American farms\, and paints a delicate and emotional portrait of resilience and love amid unbeatable odds. Directed\, photographed\, and edited by Jeff Mertz / Moonbow Imaging. \nThis session has already occurred and was not recorded.
