History The success of the Network is due to the commitment of the AgriSafe providers who have been collaborating since the program began at the University of Iowa in 1987. Initially, there were five clinics in the state of Iowa. From 1999-2003, the number of clinics increased to eighteen clinics across the state. Due to the impressive expansion and increasing needs of the clinics, it became evident that the clinics should form an independent nonprofit network known as AgriSafe Network, Inc. Awarded non-profit status in 2003, AgriSafe providers joined forces to create the current infrastructure of the organization. In 2004, the Network was included in the “Health People 2010: A Companion Document for Rural Areas,” which features national “Models for Practice” programs that prevent injuries in rural areas. |
